2014 Favourites | Beauty

Oh my goodness. Where did 2014 go?

As every year does, 2014 has flown by. I’ve met new people, discovered new products, learnt new things, worked loads… yeah, 2014 has been a relatively good year. I decided that I’d share with you some of my favourite  beauty products from 2014 on the blog today. I feel like I never blog about beauty anymore – considering I started off as a beauty blog nearly two years ago (the two-year blogiversary celebrations will kick off in January) i rarely talk about beauty! But I have however found lots of new products in 2014, which I thought I’d talk about a bit today. I did actually used to do monthly favourites when I started blogging two years ago, and it’s something I’d like to get back into in the new year as I do discover quite a few new products on a month-by-month basis. But today here’s the products that I’ve been loving throughout 2014. Grab a cuppa, it’s a (relatively) long one.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation: I discovered this foundation in about May time after getting bored of MAC and my L’Oreal Infallable foundation – I’ve been using it ever since. This is £12.49 and is honestly one of the best foundations I’ve ever used. I spent so long going through MAC’s various different foundations, and I never found something that was quite what I’m looking for. I was looking for a high-coverage foundation that wasn’t cakey and also – biggest selling point – matched my skin colour. I’d pretty much given up on drugstore foundations matching my face at all, but the shade “Buff” matches my skin perfectly. I also used the shade “Natural Tan” when I went on holiday in the summer (picture on my instagram HERE) and that was another great colour – it was scarily dark next to my normal foundation, but it was buildable and matched my face. This stays all day – I did a 10 hour shift at work last week and my foundation was still all on my face by the end of the shift – I only had to touch it up for (more) work in the evening, instead of having to re-apply the whole lot like I’d have to for other foundations.

Sleek Face Form in “Light”: I couldn’t not feature this in my 2014 Favourites post simply because it’s been my companion throughout 2014. I originally bought it purely for the highlighter, but I’ve since discovered that it’s generally a really good quality, useful palette to have. The bronzer is perfect for contouring, and I don’t think I’ve used any other bronzer since getting this one. The blush is pretty much “Rose Gold” (I did a review of this in 2013) so it’s an easy-to-wear blusher – if I’m travelling light, I’ll always take this with me as it’s very compact and useful. It’s been compared to Urban Decay’s Naked Flushed palette, a palette I’ve wanted to try for years. Since getting this palette I really haven’t felt the need to try Flushed, but I’m sure I will eventually try it at some point. This cost me £9.99, which is amazing and it lasts forever – I bought this ages ago and haven’t hit pan yet despite using it every day.

Yankee Candles in Bahama Breeze and Bermuda Beach: I couldn’t do a favourites post without featuring Yankee Candle – I wasn’t sure what to pick as my favourites for 2014 simply because I’ve tried an uncountable amount of yankee candles this year, but I’ve decided that these were my favourite two scents of the summer – Bahama Breeze and Bermuda Beach. I wanted to try Bermuda Beach last year, and I eventually tried it this year after Yankee Candle kindly sent me it in tart form! I couldn’t find it in any stores so I assumed it was online-only, but well worth the wait as it smells gorgeous. Bermuda Beach is from the Simply Home range in Tesco/Asda, and is basically the same as Pink Sands. This is a really sweet yet fresh summery scent, and it reminds me of ice lollies and cocktails on the beach. It’s delicious! They both are – they’re quite similar scent-wise, but completely different at the same time.

Yankee Candle Christmas Cookie: And for the A/W14 Yankee Candle favourite, Christmas Cookie. Of course, this was bound to end up on here. I’ve tried many different candles this winter, but I’ve always come back to this one – Christmas Cookie. I’ve burnt a whole tumbler of this this christmas, it’s too addictive – I love it! I did a full review of it and it’s sister Snowflake Cookie at the start of December HERE so you can read more about it there, but it’s just the most gorgeous festive scent ever – like warm, freshly baked festive cookies! Long live Christmas Cookie.

L’Oreal Collection Exclusive Eva’s Nude Lipstick: I picked this up just to try out when I went to Milton Keynes a couple of months ago, and have worn it quite a lot ever since. Normally nude lipsticks look horrifying on me – just a really bad case of foundation lips which washes my face out. I picked this one for its slightly peachy tint, and it’s the perfect nude for me – I’ve been wearing it to work loads as I like to keep it subtle at work. I do want to try the other colours from the collection, but I haven’t found one I like as much as this one yet – will keep looking! It’s got a really nice smooth finish to it, and is relatively long-lasting – it lasts around 4 hours of blood, sweat and tears at work, so that’s not too bad. Also, it’s a bargain for £6.99!

Simple Kind To Skin Cleansing Lotion: I did a post a few months ago talking about Simple’s skincare (You can read that here) , and I’m proud to say that my relationship with Simple is still going strong – this cleansing lotion is by far my favourite from the range. I use the cleanser, toner and eye makeup remover, but if I’m having the lazy night or I’ve run out of the other two, I use this and it still does a good job at getting rid of all the makeup on my face. I like to use the other two products to ensure I’m thorough with removing my makeup, but I could probably just get by using this, and it’s great. It costs about £5 as well, which is great value for money – and its kind to skin meaning most people with different skin types can use it. I can’t wait to continue using this in 2015!

Kiss Look So Natural Lashes in Iconic: These are hands down my favourite eyelashes ever. I was kindly sent them back in May (Read my full review of them here) and I’m so glad I discovered them as they are amazing. I pretty much gave up on eyelashes a while ago – I used to buy those dark, thick lashes in a pack of 10 for about £2 off eBay, they always used to fall off and generally looked fake and horrible. These look SO natural – I wear Iconics during the day and during nights out, they’re natural but enough for me. They’re super soft, easy to apply and very light – you literally forget you’re wearing them. I’ve mastered putting them on as well – so once you get used to wearing them, they become quicker and easier to apply (as they say, practice makes perfect..)

L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream: I was given a sample of this in St Pancras back in March, and I’ve loved it since. I carry it around in my bag with me and it’s perfect for keeping my hands moisturised and lovely. It smells amazing, just as you’d expect shea butter to smell like – I hate those hand creams that smell artificial, so this one is great as it smells authentic and lovely. It also keeps my hands moisturised for ages – I guess you could say its very intensive. A little goes a long way with this – the 10ml sample has literally last me the whole year, I’ve only just got round to buying the 30ml tube.

Zoella Makeup Bags: Last but not least, I love these makeup bags. Throughout 2014 I used so many different makeup bags, but they were either too big, or (more likely) far too small for all my makeup. These are great to use for storing products,  they fit my whole face in them and are great to carry around. At first, I wasn’t really a fan of these – I felt I wasn’t really their target audience! I did however come round very quickly and I love these – the colours and pictures are adorable. They do remind me a bit of the Ted Baker bags, but of course these are available for a fraction of the price.

So that’s it from me I guess. My final post of 2014. Wow, it feels weird saying that – I started my blog in January 2013 so I’m just about to hit my 2 Year Blogiversary! Thank you to all of you who’ve read my blog throughout 2014 – whether you’ve been with me from the start or you only started reading this year – I love you all. Happy New Year!
